October found me streamside at Cedar Creek in Star Tannery, VA. I was able to hook into a couple of Bruisers. The section I generally fish is well stocked with Rainbow and Browns with a few wild Brookies making Their way down from the mountain. I hooked up first on a Grey Moose dry with a Spicey Olive Dropper. This gal was about an 18 in rainbow. I however flopped when netting. The next one was on a Royal Wolfe with a Rock caddis Dropper. They key here is Dry dropper. the water was low and slow, Crystal Clear and the midge hatch was thin. I missed several hook sets. I did get to tryout my new Hardy Utralite rod and Reel . It had good action under the trees an over hang. About noon a front was rolling in and the trout were tired of playing. so by 1 pm I was ready for the two hour trip home.
For reference I recommend Double Spur Outfitters, Star Tannery VA. , Cool Waters Ranch In Strasburg VA., and Matt Spaid, all of which have excellent fishing on Cedar Creek. Next Sunday I will travel to The International Fly-tying Symposium in Summerset NJ. I will Be buyiong feathers for this winters ty6ying season.
