This link Is to one of the most productive flies know to man. It is small Miighty and catches more fish than you can imagine. Why Does it work? Well, it imitates the size, shape and color of macro Invertibraters floating in the water column.

If you watch a video of fish feeding in moving water, they will be seen using very little energy to line up with the bugs in the water and simply wait untill they drift right into thier mouths. If fish is on the move its because there are few floating food sources.

Fish will only go after a large meal if it is covenient and worth the effort. Other wise they will feed on whats readily available. Fish must constantly stay in motion. even when they sleep. (yes fish sleep.) They burn calories constantly. so they feed often and keep thier bodies full of energy so they can feed some more. They are also about efficiency. They want to go after prey that they can get and eat that will make up for the energy they expend plus adding to thier energy stores. Often an abundance of small bugs is far more energy positive than one big bug.

If you insist on "throwing meat" be pre pared that you really have to make it a presnetation of an easy meal.

The zebra midge is the epitomy of a easy meal. to fish this bug, it should suspend in the water column where the fish are feeding. Tie the midge on as a trailer under a dry fly. Put enough tippet material on between the mige and the dry to drift it into the feeding zone. this may take a little trial and error untill you figure out what depth they are feeding at. you may be able to sight fish this information. The key is observation. Once you find the feeding spot hang on. you will start landing fish like crazy.
